Bauhaus: 1919-1933

Between two world wars, in a fleeting 14-year period, Germany's Bauhaus school of art and design managed to transform modernity. The school had utopian ideas for the future, pioneering a fusion of fine art, craftsmanship, and technology. This fusion was applied across various media and practices, including film, theater, sculpture, and ceramics.

This reference work, created in collaboration with the Bauhaus-Archiv/Museum für Gestaltung in Berlin, showcases the world's largest collection on the history of Bauhaus. It includes 575 illustrations, such as architectural plans, studies, photographs, sketches, and models. These illustrations not only document the realized works but also highlight the key principles and personalities of the creative community that spanned three locations in Weimar, Dessau, and Berlin.

From informal shots of group gymnastics to drawings guided by Paul Klee, from extensive architectural plans to sleek ashtrays by Marianne Brandt, the collection captures the colors, materials, and geometries that defined the Bauhaus vision of a "total" work of art.
